Promoting Animal Welfare - The ABTC
By promoting responsible and well qualified practitioners, the use of methods that are designed to train animals through aversion will be minimised. The humane treatment of animals undergoing training or behaviour therapy will be at the forefront of education and training of practitioners.
Public education campaigns through the media and various animal related networks will be aimed at providing information for owners, handlers and keepers of animals regarding humane treatment of animals undergoing training and behaviour therapy and their responsibilities under current animal welfare legislation.
Member organisations of the Council will have a robust Code of Practice for practitioners to adhere to in the execution of their work that is appropriate to any specialised practice. They will also operate a complaints and disciplinary procedure that will investigate any suggestion of malpractice in a prompt and transparent manner.
